This piece, planned during Clement Harris’s trip to the East with Siegfried Wagner, doesn’t follow any classical form at all, instead following the narrative arc of John Milton’s epic poem of the same name, using (Richard) Wagnerian leitmotif to drive the narrative arc. While Paradise Lost did enjoy early success, receiving a critically-acclaimed premiere in Bad Homburg on September 28, 1895, gaining Harris support of none other than the royal families of Europe, the work has been performed sparingly since. This edition aims to change that.
