Florence Price – The Oak

This piece is a dark, introspective tone poem and very different from the bulk of her output, which tended to be upbeat and folkloric with dance elements. This, on the other hand, is more modernist and dissonant. We don’t know exactly what Price’s direct inspiration was, and she left no known program for the tone poem.
