Paul Dukas (arr. Critser) – The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

This piece, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (or L’apprenti sorcier in the original French) was without a doubt Dukas’s most famous. The piece is a tone poem based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s own poem “Der Zauberlehrling” (translated in English the same way). Not only was this Dukas’s most famous piece, it has easily surpassed the recognition of even its own source material, largely because of its use in the 1940 Disney film Fantasia.
